BARGAD is a registered youth forum and a non-profit organization founded in 1997.

BARGAD holds the values of human dignity, creative thinking, justice and equity, and peaceful solutions of our problems.

Overall goal of the organization revolves around the following:
VISION statement: Politically aware, democratic, responsible, and gender sensitive youth communities that respect freedom, equality, rule of law, and harmony.

MISSION statement as: To promote peace, justice and cooperation among literate youth in Pakistan

Values:

  • An organization that demonstrates commitment and responsibility to its vision.
  • Democratic and transparent management which encourages continuous self improvement and cooperation.
  • Involves all stakeholders without discrimination, and on the basis of gender equality, mutual respect and tolerance.
  • Believes in rule of law, human rights and dignity for all.

Key Qualification:

BARGAD has a long and unique standing among civil society organizations in Pakistan that has been working exclusively on youth development since 1997 when it was founded by a group of enthusiast students from various educational institutions in Lahore. It focuses upon literate youth, highlighting girls, as the primary target group of its work. This includes college and university going students, community youth and those affiliated with religious seminaries.

The working approach of BARGAD is to combine rights-based action with personal development of youth and to support them with mobilization, advocacy, research and capacity building for leadership and peace and youth cooperation.

With a vast network of more than 800 youth volunteers through out the country Pakistan, the hallmark of our work has been that the core groups of BARGAD’s young volunteers participate in all aspects of project planning and implementation.

In retrospect, BARGAD can take pride to the fact that it was a rare youth operator in the civil society, amply bringing youth issues to the forefront of national focus and a valuable agenda for both public and social sectors of the country.

It is worth-mentioning that the BARGAD:

  • is a grassroots organization that holds the distinction to simultaneously work with youth in their campuses and communities and also interact with the national policies.
  • has established institutionalized relationship with more than 35 universities and higher education institutions all over the country and education and youth ministries in Pakistan.
  • has proved to be an effective channel that is facilitating cohesion of youth networks and student communities.
  • has been a principal force to mobilize female youth in Gujranwala and give them confidence to publically come out for their human, social and economic rights.
  • has pioneered the tradition of publically celebrating “International Youth Day”. Other civil society organizations and public bodies are following it now.
  • also stands out with its youth related research and publications that is being carried out since its inception. This is a valuable resource among scarce literature on youth.
